Carol Lee Scott

Carol Lee Scott was a great cabaret attraction at Pontins holiday camps around the country throughout the 1960s and 70s and regularly toured cabaret clubs in Britain and abroad, sharing bills with the likes of Max Wall, Arthur Askey, Morecambe & Wise, Ella Fitzgerald and Tommy Cooper over a long career spanning 42 years in the business. In addition to their cabaret work, Carol and her stage band used to do regular session work around the music business world on Denmark Street and along the way were offered a number of original compositions, including "That Little Bit of Love", which she incorporated into her stage act.

In 1974 Carol recognised the demands of her audience and recorded an album that could be sold at her concerts. The sessions were financed by the owner of the club in which she was playing at the time. Hawaiian guitar maestro Wout Steenhuis kindly offered the services of his studio in Broadstairs, Kent and those of his son Paul to engineer the session.

Carol Lee Scott - In Time

Carol's stage band of Dave Longley on Guitar and Joe Coulson on Drums were joined by studio engineer Peter Male on Electric Piano and part of the horn section from the Jack Hawkins band. Every track on the album was recorded in one take without rehearsal and the entire "In Time" LP was completed in a day.

At the time there was talk of a single deal with President Records under the name of "Cuddles", but that came to nothing, meaning that the album, manufactured by Steenhuis Records and pressed with the help of David Kassner of President records, was only available to attendees of Carol's concerts.

Her association with the dreaded Emu began during a summer season in Cleethorpes with Rod Hull in 1980 and for many years Carol was better known as Grotbags, the green-faced witch from cult kids' TV shows The Pink Windmill, All Live Pink Windmill and Emu's World. Following the success of the Rod Hull programmes Carol was given her own Grotbags show which lasted for a further five series. Carol is now happily retired.
